چکیده

The OB associations, which are fossil star formation regions, retain the endproducts of the star formation process in an open, unobscured environment. Observations of the low mass stars in OB associations provide a far clearer picture of the results of the star formation process than do observations of embedded, on-going star formation regions. We review the X–ray and optical surveys of the fossil star formation regions in the Orion OB1 association. Low mass pre-main sequence stars abound not only in the known regions of recent star formation, but are also distributed over a much larger volume. The pre-main sequence stars have a narrow age spread, and the mass function extends down to substellar masses. The clustering of pre-main sequence stars around σ Ori may represent an evolved version of the Orion Nebula Cluster. We speculate about the effect of the OB environment on the initial mass function and the formation of planetary systems like the Solar System.

The Large-Scale Distribution and Motions of Older Stars in Orion

We review the current knowledge of the population of ‘older’ stars in the Orion OB1 association, specifically those in subgroups 1a and 1b. We briefly outline the history of the subject and then continue with a summary of the present state of knowledge of the early-type stars in Orion OB1. New results from the Hipparcos parallaxes and proper motions will be presented. The main result is that su...

The Dispersed Young Population in Orion

The Orion OB1 Association, at a distance of roughly 400 pc and spanning over 200 deg on the sky, is one of the largest and nearest OB associations. With a wide range of ages and environmental conditions, Orion is an ideal laboratory for investigating fundamental questions related to the birth of stars and planetary systems. This rich region exhibits all stages of the star formation process, fro...

The Low - Mass Young Stellar Population in Orion Ob 1 3

We present recent results from our ongoing large scale variability survey of the Orion OB1 Association. In an area of ∼ 25 square degrees we have unveiled new populations of low-mass young stars over a range of environments, and ages from 1-2 Myr in Ori OB 1b to roughly 10 Myr in Ori OB 1a. There is a lack of strong Hα emission and near-IR excesses in the young stars of Ori OB 1a, suggesting th...

Forty Years of X-Ray Binaries

In 2012 it was forty years ago that the discovery of the first X-ray binary Centaurus X-3 became known. That same year it was discovered that apart from the High-Mass X-ray Binaries (HMXBs) there are also Low-Mass X-ray Binaries (LMXBs), and that Cygnus X-1 is most probably a black hole. By 1975 also the new class of Be/X-ray binaries was discovered. After this it took 28 years before ESAs INTE...

The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations

Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...
